The EphemeCH team has the pleasure to congratulate Dr. Rafael Nogueras for successfully completing his doctoral examination process, under the supervision of Carlos Cotta. The Phd Viva was held last Thursday, 15 October 2015, in the premises of the ETSI Informática of the University of Málaga, and the PhD Committe was composed by Prof. Juan J. Merelo (Chair), Dr. José E. Gallardo (Secretary), Dr. Francisco Fernández de Vega, Dr. Antonio Fernández Leiva and Dr. David Camacho. After an 1-hour presentation by the doctoral candidate and a full round of questions from all members of the committee, these decided to award the maximum grade to Rafael’s doctoral dissertation.
The PhD Thesis (in Spanish) was entitled “Memetic Algorithms with Self-* Properties for the Optimization of Complex Problems” and nicely bridges our previous project ANYSELF (devoted to the use of self-* properties in bioinspired algorithms) with our current EphemeCH initiative, which revolves around the notion of ephemeral computing, that is, computation in unstable and volatile computational evironments. These latter scenarios were dealt with using self-* properties such as self-scaling and self-repairing.
