Last August I had the privilege of attending the 75th birthday celebration of one of the best known researchers in the area of genetic algorithms, Prof. Erik Goodman, a student of John Holland and founder of the Garage lab and the Beacon center.
Michigan State University organizes the Beacon Congress every summer, and this year decided to organize the event after the congress, with the presence of John Koza, David Goldberg, Stephanie Forrest, Darrell Whitley, Wolfgang Banzhaff…. And I was also invited and had the privilege of being part of this event. My lecture at the congress dealt with Evolutionary Art and the “dilemma of fitness assessment” in this context.
The day after the congress, we enjoyed an all-day event, which ended with a memorable talk by Erik Goodman and a dinner to celebrate the birthday.
From now on I will remember this event and tell it as part of my personal history in the area of evolutionary algorithms.
